Meandering Severn
Another trip to 'The Other Side' of the River Severn today. Yesterday I went to Newnham-on-Severn which is on the road to Chepstow and Wales. Today I took a right turn 2 miles before Newnham and headed for Cinderford, in the Forest of Dean.
The photograph was taken from the top of Littledean Hill looking out over the bends in the River Severn.
You can see how wide it gets along this stretch. The Vale of Gloucester is quite flat but has the Forest of Dean on the north side of the river and the Cotswolds on the other so it has to meander a lot, and then it reaches it's tidal peak at Gloucester itself where the river narrows.
I was driving to see our daughter because it's her birthday today. She will be with us, and Daniel's gang, on Sunday for a bit of a get together.
Yep, another birthday, with 16 of us it's usually someone's birthday every month, sometimes two a month!
