Steep Street

Had to take a trip to Newnham-on-Severn today. It's quite a lovely, quirky, place as it is built right up the side of a hill. It's almost impossible to park so, when I spotted a parking space, I quickly nipped in even though it was only halfway up the hill. I walked the rest, only about 100 yards, and on the way back snapped this shot of Severn Street. There's a few side streets like this, they lead straight down to the mighty River Severn. There's a note underneath the street name that it was formerly called 'Passage Lane'.
On the way back I noticed the Severn was at high tide, otherwise you can see great swathes of sandbanks, or probably more likely, mud banks! It was only about 12 miles but it is very wide at this point and about a mile up-river it starts to narrow as it approaches Gloucester, this is what contributes to the famous Severn Bore.
