Great Northern

We set off on a cold, damp Cumbrian day and, after an enjoyable train journey, we arrived at Kings Cross to find sunshine and people sitting outside - could have been summer. We hadn’t quite believed the forecast as we were packing . . .

This weekend has been long in the planning, arrangements undergoing many changes for various reasons. So, working round family commitments, making several travel and hotel changes, not to mention Covid and rail strikes, and I began to think we wouldn’t even get here - but here we are in a newly refurbished Hampstead Premier Inn. And, because it was a late booking, there were only luxury rooms left - imagine . . . a Premier Inn with a coffee machine and fridge!

Whether the rest of the weekend will work out, we will see . . . meanwhile there’s Daunt Books just down the road and a choice of places to eat tonight . . .
