Last stop before home
We stayed, last night, in Montreuil sur Mer. A pretty town, lots of 16th Century buildings including our hotel. During WW1, Haig made Montreuil the home of the British GHQ - well back from the front line!
We had a good wander around the streets and along the ramparts this morning, as well as a visit to the Fromagerie for a few purchases to take home.
So that's it then! Goodbye France and thanks for the best of times.
As food has featured so highly on this trip, I have singled out my favourite dishes to make up a fantasy wishlist menu -
Starter - Foie Gras terrine from Le Valentino, Troyes
Fish course - Trout Gravadlax with caviar and beetroot from Polypode, Clermont Ferrand
Main Course - Stuffed saddle of Rabbit from Le Patio, Montreuil sur Mer
Dessert - Cucumber Granita with meringue from Le Sol Payre vineyard
Cheese - Pretty much anything from Fromagerie Caseus, Montreuil, but I especially liked the semi hard one with flowers and only wish I could remember its name!
