Glimpses of Me

Jeepney

Jeepneys are the most popular means of public transportation in the Philippines. They are known for their crowded seating and flamboyant decorations, which have become a ubiquitous symbol of Philippine culture and art. A Sarao jeepney was exhibited at the Philippine pavilion at the 1964 New York World's Fair as a national image for the Filipinos.
Jeepneys were originally made from US military jeeps left over from World War II. The word jeepney came from the combination of the words "jeep" and "jitney", a small bus that carries passengers on a regular route with flexible schedule. While most are used as public utility vehicles, jeepneys used as personal vehicles have their rear doors attached with "For family use" or "Private" sign painted on them to alert commuters. Jeepneys are used less often for commercial or institutional use.

I went off searching for a very flambuoyant one, however, had to blip this for being nationalistic. Owners of jeepneys usually paint anything that suits their fancy on the sides of the jeepney, although most of them put in sights and attractions of the Philippines. This chose to paint Pagsanjan and Bohol, two famous tourist and local summer destinations in the Philippines, albeit, a bit haphazardly done, as he is not a painter after all..

Nothing much doing in the homefront today. 1st day of school here, and as always, traffic was horrendous, everything in CHAOS! Enter an intersection at your own risk! From the word GO, all directions merged! Oh dear!! At 7am in the morning, horns were blowing like mad, blood pressures rising like crazy.. All in a bid to get their cars ahead, as if they have far to go, traffic ahead of them was even slower! And then it started raining real hard, with thunderstorms! Good thing it stopped by afternoon as I was able to go out and get a shot of this Jeepney! Hope everyone else is having a fab Monday!

Thank you for the wonderful comments and stars on yesterday's Lucky Chinatown.. Always appreciate what you lovely lot have to say..

Hugs and kisses to everyone!
