Flood Tunnel

Excited to discover the entrance to the Ropery flood tunnel while working on a night shoot today at Chatham Historic Dockyard.

The entrance is at the bottom of the stairs in the subway tunnel underneath the Ropery and I must have walked past it hundreds of times over the past few years yet never really clocked what it was.

The entrance is a mesh gate with a chain and looks rather sinister. My colleague walked into the tunnel and felt an overwhelming feeling of sadness and urge to cry… ghosts perhaps?

It’s so incredible working at a heritage site. This tunnel would have been built around 1784 ahead of the Ropery building.

Worked 17 hours today due to a 4 hour tech recce for a production job ahead of starting my filming shift for the dockyard, the joy of freelance two clients on one day. So glad to get to bed at 5am. Tomorrow should be easier just 13 hours.
