The Campanile.

Beaumes-de-Venise.
16th Century church clock tower, topped by a wrought-iron belfry (Campanile)
Built in 1507. The campanile was added in the 19th century when the church was rebuilt.

This village is famed for the natural fortified sweet wine made from the muscat grape, and called Muscat de Beaumes de Venise.
Records of it's use go back almost two millennia.
This year they celebrate the 70th anniversary of being accorded it's Appellation Controlee. (don't know how to add all the accents etc. to the French words!)
We love the wine with Christmas pudding!

After a look round the village, and a coffee, we went on to Sablet for a "little" lunch.
Menu de Jour at the local café , 3 courses, including 50cl of wine, was 13.50 euros.
Delicious food too.

Two hour lunch, and a wine tasting on the way back!
