Trees or seals?

The weather cleared conveniently this morning as we explored Thurso. The surfers were enjoying the Pentland swell. The seals in the River Thurso fooled us as they looked like semi-submerged trees until they moved their skyward pointing flippers and wrinkled their whiskers!

We also walked along the beach, saw the Hamnavoe Northlink Ferry arrive from Stromness and admired The Old Man of Hoy clearly visible across The Firth.

We also spent a highly informative hour in the Thurso Museum/ Visitor Centre learning about Norse heritage and “hands on” the former control desk from nearby Douneray’s nuclear power station.
