Oh, Oh

Woke up to strange noises in the cellar. 20cm of water. The ground water level had risen again overnight following thunder storms and continuous rain, such that the drain for the cellar was full. The pump was thus simply pumping the water back in the cellar. Reorganise pumps & hoses. At 9:30 the fire brigade siren went off and on a few occasions they came down to the house with blue lights flashing to check the water level as it was threatening to go over the road. At the house itself the water level rose higher than last Saturdayand just at the point I thought it might start be a big problem, it stopped raining for 2 hours.
Took a drive in the village to see if anyone needed our petrol pump but it seemed although critical, the river hadn't broken it's banks. It's now been raining again for 4 hours but the water level is surprisingly not rising.

The Blip is taken at the bottom of one of the horse fields. The stream, normally with 5-10cm has broken it's banks upstream, exactly as last week. At about 10:00am I was clearing the concrete area the horses are restricted to at the moment (they can just be seen as a brown, white, black spots) when a badger came from where the dogs are and marched through the flooded field alongside the hedge & totally ignored me 10 meters away. Luckily the dogs didn't see it. Have never seen a badger on our property.

Apparently it will rain for another few hours and then slow down. I hope this water doesn't give problems again further down the line.
