Europe by van Day 18
We made an early start but after a few km had to turn back to Yogoland camp as some tape was flapping. Mr C got the ladder and the helpful guy gave us more tape.
We headed off and only got a few km further before a car flashed us but before Mr C slowed down we got caught in a speed trap doing 42km when it should be 30km. So ironic as we were having to go so slowly anyway, keeping under 60km. The young policeman spend 20 minutes practicing his English before fining €20. Unfortunately a crosswind meant further sticking down had to be done. It was now 2.5 hours after first leaving camp.
By the time we crossed in Croatia we’d lost most of the plastic so everything was open to the elements.
We found a campsite near Osijek, about 90 miles. The owner brought a tarpaulin and said he’d be back with a friend in an hour but after 3 hours he hadn’t appeared.
Mr C started putting the tarp on to keep the forecasted rain out but there are holes in it. I went off investigating round camp and came back with 2 strong wipeable tablecloths from the kitchen. He put them on first and then the tarp, weighed with big stones, on top.
The young man the owner said might help appeared and had a look. He indicated he could fix little bits but suggested he got in touch with a man he knew who is a boat builder and works in fibreglass. The boatbuilder will come on Monday to take a look. If he can’t/won’t fix it the young man will have a go.
So we hunker down till Monday, hoping the forthcoming storms won’t give us further grief. The mozzies are doing that.
