Feast
Scallops with corn cream, magret duck breast with beets, salade lyonnaise, veal sweetbreads on a bed of creamed spinach, cheese plate (blue cheese, Camembert, Bayonne ham, and clams), and a dessert plate (berry tart, profiterole, mini eclair, and raspberry macaron.
This was quite a feast. We ate at the buffet restaurant tonight, because the sit-down restaurant where we have had most of our dinners is closed Thursday nights. This was clearly their pull-out-all-the-stops night. I've wanted to try sweetbreads for a long time, but this is the first time I've had the opportunity; my surprise verdict: they were fine but mild and not terribly interesting (a surprising reaction for offal, which is seldom mild and tends to elicit a strong reaction). Everything else was its own highlight. All was enjoyed with the passable house white wine. We are eating extremely well this week.
