At last

I’ve talked about visiting RSBP Blacktoft Sands for years. Today I got there and on a lovely sunny day. Lots of birds and dragonflies.

Approx 2 hours driving to get there.
A616, A635, A1, M18, M180, A18, A161

1 hour 34 minutes returning in the evening in lighter traffic  and more motorway
A161 M62 M1 A628

What did we see:
At least 5 different dragonflies
At least 6 different butterflies
Tree Sparrows !!!!
Sparrowhawk, Kestrel, Buzzard and some magnificent Marsh Harriers fully appreciated for the first time seen in brilliant sunshine.

Lapwing, Snipe, Redshank (lovely to hear their calls), Greenshank (one of which was surviving well with only one leg), Ruff.

Mallard, Tufted Duck, Wigeon, Teal, Gadwall ducks.  Mute Swans, Little Grebe, Coot, Moorhen.

Hundreds of Pink-footed geese in the fields across the road at the entrance.

Best moment sitting in silence on my own surrounded by Migrant Hawker Dragonflies.
