A truly shocking start to the day

As I cycled over the New Bridge (where I took yesterday's image) I spotted one swan chasing another along the river wall. At first I just thought it was perfectly normal boy/girl high-jinks, but it didn't take me very long to realise that she was bleating in distress and he was really bullying her. By the time I'd reached them and got the camera out he was raping her.
The 1st extra is taken just after he'd finished that. Just look at her blackened face - far right.
His friend had also arrived on the scene.
The 2nd extra is the boys confirming their allegiance before going in for the kill. See how fit and strong the male necks are in comparison with that of their victim.
My main shot was taken only moments later – the rapist is pushing her throat underwater and his accomplice is keeping her face below the surface too.
I took 26 shots of this rape and attempted drowning. 
I tried to find things to throw at the boys with the intention of chasing them off. Nothing worked.
She managed to get herself a little farther downstream to a place where there wasn't a steep wall, and was trying to clamber out, but even so the boys were trying to pull her back in.
It didn't look hopeful. She was so battered, they were so strong, so brutal. 
I don't imagine she survived.
