Life in a Northern Town

Blanket with a view

We woke to gale force winds and torrential rain - with no hope of any respite. We decided we couldn’t even face the planned walk to the lovely beach cafe for breakfast so tea and toast it was, followed by a drive inland to the Dartington glass factory. I was last there on a school trip in 1979 - the cafe is much improved but other than that little has changed. Fascinating to see the handmade processes - if a little scary to see the lack of safety equipment (see extras - even the assistant seems anxious). Of course my coloured glass obsession was indulged a little with a beautiful flower jar - rude not to.

The rain stopped briefly so we braved the beach - see extras 2 and 3 - it was stunning, incredibly mild, the wind almost felt like a hairdryer but it took our breath away figuratively and literally - so beautiful, so gusty!

Back to the house to play a ridiculous Disney game that was in the cupboard - Sarah walked the floor with us. I crocheted another row of the temperature blanket and the sun came out - I couldn’t resist a photo.

This evening we took a very blustery walk to the local hotel for a fabulous dinner - the drive to the house is phenomenally steep, even more so after a bottle of Rioja, but we’re safely home and watching Chicago PD. Can’t be bad.

Similar forecast for tomorrow - we may have to resort to tenpin bowling.
