"Showhouse for a Cure"
16 years ago a group of Milwaukee women got together to raise money for cancer research. Their idea: choose a home each year to feature in a showcase-- have designers from various stores each choose 1 room in the house to decorate & make special, donating their time & materials, & then the home is opened for tours. People touring the home pay an entrance fee, & all of the funds go to the Medical College of Wisconsin. So far they've raised over $5 million dollars! This years' home was built in 1930, is 4500 square feet in size & features 5 bedrooms & a ballroom (just like mine----NOT! Ha!). The original owner was founder & president of Milwaukee Brass & Aluminum Company. Because of this, his company made all of the fixtures, chandeliers, hinges, doorknobs, etc. for the house, & they were all made of brass. (& are all still intact in the house). My friends & I have toured many of the homes, including this one, which was gorgeous! It's for a good cause, & is a fun day for all of us!!
