A trip out to Penzance and then on to the remarkable Minack theatre for a production of the Threepenny Opera. The Minack Theatre is in the most amazing of settings, overlooking the coast. It’s quite a drive down some very narrow lanes to the wonderful beach at Porthcurno and then a steep walk up to the theatre. It’s an outdoor theatre and, thankfully, the weather was clear and bright. This version of the opera is not for the faint-hearted, set in a bawdy, down to earth, common as muck, say it as you see it sort of way. The lead character, Mac the Knife, was excellent in a Fagin, Delboy, Mitchell Brothers mash-up. It’s a comic opera with the traditional storylines. Good girl meets bad boy, trouble with the parents, corruption, excess and the most complicated of relationship troubles, but it all comes good in the end.
