Wednesday walk along the coastal path to Housel Cove, where we paddled in the sea, lounged around, read & took in lots of vitamin D. We stopped off at the Wireless Hut just above the cove. It’s where Marconi developed the wireless signal, which is a little ironic as there’s no wireless where we’re staying. He first thought up the idea of wireless comms whilst living in Italy. He couldn’t get funding so he moved to the country with the biggest maritime interest … England. He set up shop & set up signalling, receiving a message here from the Isle of Wight, 186 miles away. This station was also the first to receive a SOS message from the Minnehaha which ran aground on the Isles of Scilly.
And then on to Church Cove, stopping off at Landewednack church, first built about 600ad, and the last place to hear a sermon in Cornish (1678). And then back for an early tea at the Wavecrest Cafe (now our favourite local) for some very fine, very fresh fish.
