Having a bit of a gander
W had to call at the optician's in Norwich again this morning and as we also wanted to go to the supermarket on the way home it was only a short detour to visit the Norfolk Wildlife Trust reserve at Ranworth. After a pleasant lunch overlooking Malthouse Broad where we were serenaded by this fairly vocal Egyptian Goose we had a wander up to the reserve. There is only a short area to walk up to a small visitor centre, the walk being largely across a boardwalk as it is the nearest thing to a swamp that you can get in the UK, with some fascinating trees that form weird shapes as they collapse under their own weight but then continue growing upwards.
The visitor centre overlooks Ranworth Broad which is a nature reserve; there is an electric boat which provides tours of the broad to see the wildlife including the Ospreys which are nesting there (but have not produced chicks, unfortunately). I've added an extra of the boat, 'Little Tern', and also one of a traditional sailing boat tacking across the nearby river.
