Berrington Hall
This morning’s jaunt was to another National Trust property, just a few miles away, Berrington Hall.
It’s a Georgian pile, built for a Thomas Harley who made his money as a banker and Government contractor in the 1700s and became Lord Mayor of London.
The story of the house is told mainly through the discovery of his wife’s Mantua dress which she wore to the court of King George III and there’s lots of interesting information on Georgian fashion and life generally.
The gardens and parkland were the the last project of Capabilty Brown before his death and we took a rather damp walk through them and aroun the lake (see extra) before heading on to Ludlow.
The rain set in this afternoon so we didn’t stay long.
