up and running again

So far no sign of yesterday's bug.    

It was a lot easier and quicker to sort out than I'd imagined.  Without getting bogged down in the technicalities, the latest version of the OS allows "erase content and settings" without having to do a major reinstall.   Just a few tweaks to personalise the desktop and back up some of my files.

Phew.
