Dry

Most of the year the Rillito River is dry, but when we have the Monsoon Rains, the river can become a raging torrent. Currently we are experiencing a couple of weeks with temperatures around 105. Monsoons are not expected until around July 1. This sandy portion is only about one quarter of the width of the river bed.

At 2:00 pm, with the hot sun blazing down, the Rillito Bike Trail and the Childrens' Memorial Park were vacant. The only visible life was several pocket gophers, a few birds, and one crazy photographer in search of his daily blip.

One curious sidelight is that Edgewater Drive is a street adjacent to the river. It is an appropriate name about two days a year.
