“Don’t Drink The Water Dad”

As part of our six cemeteries day yesterday Sam detoured to visit one of Sam’s ‘must sees’.

A half mile walk from the Perranarworthal Church down an ancient green lane, entered via an unusual turnstile which presumably prevented livestock from entering, along a shady track we found, tucked away in a little dell, St Piran’s, Well. What a delight, lush greenery, surrounded by ferns and Jurassic looking gunnera plants it is a shady, secluded spot.
Wells such as this one have been sacred places since the earliest times and it is highly likely that this spring was an important place before the arrival of Christianity.
Given the recent hot weather the flowing water was not of any great volume but looked cool and inviting, a drink was in order.
As I stepped forward I was told by Sam; “don’t drink the water Dad. Being rich in minerals it might have done you good years ago but now that water flows through ground and fields sprayed with pesticides, insecticides and whatever else the farmers use, and have used, it won’t do you any good”.

Warned off I settled for a couple of photos.

The day was spent recuperating from yesterday, all the reports were submitted online to the CWGC and the next six visits planned for next week.
