Microlight Flight
One of my birthday presents for my eightieth birthday earlier this year was a gift token from my wife for a microlight flight in East Lothian. Obviously I did not think about booking the flight until it was much hotter and sunnier. Sadly I missed the really hot spell we had in June and my first booking for early August was a none starter because of weather conditions. Like drones microlights can only fly in less windy weather.
However, today despite gloomy weather forecasts the weather conditions were fine. There were some light low clouds about and at times the view was a bit misty but it was OK to fly.
Microlight flights involve the pilot virtually sitting in the passengers lap so there is limited room for manoeuvre. I had hoped that I would be taking lots of decent aerial shots but found it very hard to compose a shot whilst viewing through a visor several inches away from the camera relying on the camera's LCD screen with lots of the microlight's superstructure getting in the way.Nevertheless I have included a few shots to chronicle my journey. From the air the rural nature of most of East Lothian is very apparent with patchwork quilt of fields stretching in all directions. We flew over to the coast at Dunbar and then westwards along the coast towards Musselburgh. My blip is an overview of Dunbar
then my extras included a closeup of Dunbar Harbour, a view of John Muir Country Park and Hedderwick Sands (totally hidden as it was high tide, a view of Green Craig and Craigielaw Golf Course and finally a close of some field art (tractor) which is only visible from above
