On the South Bank
For the last day of our short break in London, we headed for the South Bank, stopping for a walk around the front of St Paul’s Cathedral and a view of the office block next to it, on the corner of Watling Street where I had my first job after leaving school as a Sales Clerk for the paper makers, Wiggins Teape as they were called then. After 2 years there I left to train as a teacher.
We walked across the Millennium Bridge, from where I took this photo (spot the plane!), before spending a couple of hours in the Tate Modern. From there we walked past The Globe to Borough Market to grab a snack for lunch.
Back at the river we caught the river bus to Battersea Power Station, had a quick look at the development there, then walked across Chelsea Bridge, past the Royal Hospital (home to the Chelsea Pensioners) and up to Sloane Square for the tube back to Hammersmith.
There was just time for a pub meal of pie and mash before we caught the bus home.
We certainly managed to see parts of London this time that we’d not seen before!
