Baking in the heat

Please excuse the pun! The weather is playing havoc with all sorts of things, including baking. I can’t find anywhere in the house cool enough for the dough to rise slowly, I could let it rise in the fridge but that will not fit in with my current timetable. No one signed up for tennis practice tonight, but I’m not surprised as the temperature is still around 35 degrees. It is the ringing summer school, the church is stifling and it is affecting people’s concentration. There is a programme for each of the local ringers to progress to their next challenge. Mine is to ring a quarter peal of Cambridge surprise minor on Sunday. I have only done that once before many years ago. We did succeed in ringing a quarter peal of Grandsire doubles this morning but failed to ring a quarter of Bob minor for the treble ringer on his first attempt. We did manage a 720 which took about 25 minutes. In the process, I seem to have developed tendinitis in my left hand. I put that down to the weather as well, gripping the rope differently in the heat.
