Brown Bear
Naturetrek work hard to manage expectations and 100% of the time exceed them. Today was no exception. The highlight was this female European brown bear that spent around an hour and half less than 100m away from the hides deep in the heart of the Notranjska forest. We waited three hours for her to appear watching the jays and finches and thinking we were out of luck. After a substantial lunch, not much sleep last night and general tiredness I briefly dozed off in a comfortable chair in my solo hide, I woke up and saw the bear.
This morning we spent some time in the grounds of where we are staying in Markovec and marvelled at the number of nuthatches, haw finches and spotted fly catchers. A short minibus drive took us to Snežnik Castle, extra, and a magnificent display by various damselflies including the Azure Damselfly.
