Notranjska National Park

Arrived under an unbelievably starry sky in Markovec, a couple of hours drive from Ljubljana. Before that I spent a relaxing day in and around Heathrow airport drinking coffee, reading the papers and completing 2 squares of cross stitch.

It’s almost midnight in Slovenia and I can hear various outdoor nocturnal noises, I could be persuaded that they are bear, jackal and lynx. The nearest I will get today is this decoration in the hall of the hostel where we’re staying. It’s basic but with a decent shower and the promise of a breath taking view at dawn. The WiFi is wobbly so I may need to do some retrospective blipping.

Our guide is Luca, Italian, and am already intrigued by the politics of this new (1991) small country, and the politics of its wildlife conservation.
