Final resting place.

Alison had specifically requested that her ashes be scattered on Per Beach, St Martins. We took the open boat for the 30 min crossing, having been updated on the weather conditions for the return trip.
We had to abort the whole thing from Penzance last Autumn due to forecast storms and we really did want to succeed this time, not least because this would have been Alison’s 66th birthday and we had chosen this date to coincide.
The later return boats were all cancelled due to the incoming Storm Betty and, as it was low tide, we had to land at the far end of the island rather than close to where we needed to be. It could have been a repeat of last time! We felt under considerable time pressure but were determined to do the task as requested.
We trotted across to Per Beach , but scattering was out of the question as the wind was beginning to get up and, much as we all loved Alison, we didn’t want to wear her! Instead, we dug a few shallow holes in the sand and took it in turns to say a few words as we each buried some of her ashes. We also buried the ashes of her lovely dog, Lily, who died at Christmas, alongside.
We made it back for the last boat and set off in what was now a force 7 gale and driving rain as Storm Betty began to take hold. It was an “interesting “ journey but we were filled with relief at accomplishing the mission.
Alison and Lily now lie together, gazing out forever at the blue ocean, in one of the most beautiful parts of the UK
