Old Haunts
Dear O'H dear and Lovely Tea Jenny,
The weather was amazing so we hired bikes this morning and had a great time pottering about Stavanger. Cycling here is so easy. There are wide cycle paths, separate from the road with no potholes.
We cycled out to The Prince’s old house and then round a beautiful lake near where he used to live. The way back was past the golf course so we stopped in for a beer in the sunshine on the terrace and The Prince got chatting to the very friendly man working in the clubhouse. Albert (The Prince’s dad) still has his name on the hole in one board there!
We went in the hop on hop off bus tour late afternoon which was lovely but it’s fair to say that there’s not a huge amount to say about Stavanger - fishing, oil, trolls & Vikings. The audio guide mentioned (twice) that the Vikings had excellent personal hygiene which made them irresistible to European women who often followed them back to Norway. I suspect that being kidnapped may have been one of the persuasive factors.
We went for dinner at a restaurant by the harbour. No concert there tonight but we did pop into the Irish Bar and there was a really good band playing and The Prince was happy because he could have Guinness!
