Rescuing The RNLI
Instructor who announced himself with a knock on our door. His van had stopped on the road just outside The Policies. Could we help?
He was fairly certain he had run out of fuel mentioning a faulty fuel gauge. The road has double continuous lines which bans overtaking.
He allowed his vehicle to freewheel back into the field entrance, as we tried to direct the traffic flowing in both directions. Most of the drivers appreciated the lack of visibility and obeyed our hand singles of stop and go.
I then drove the RNLI instructor to the nearest fuel pump where he bought a can and filled it up with fuel. Returning to the scene with Pat still directing traffic he refuelled and after several false starts the engine fired up and he was in his way to the lifeboat station at Broughty Ferry.
He thanked us, mentioning the ‘Kindness of Strangers’. Quickly the traffic flow was returned to normal.
The drivers who did not obey our signals did rather have a shock when confronted with oncoming traffic in the shape of a 44 tonne articulated truck.
And today’s photo has absolutely nothing to do with this text. It is the field on the northern side of ‘The Policies’.
