Victoriana
Another trip to the Priory, this time to look at the Victorian stained glass. There is an Albert Memorial window by Clayton & Bell and a Crucifixion window by Charles Kempe which includes the Malvern Hills and the Priory itself in the background. That window was commissioned for Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee in 1897. For my blip photograph I've chosen a detail from another jubilee window, Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee in 1887. The window depicts the accession, the coronation and the jubilee thanksgiving service. My photograph is of the last of these , an interesting window in which Queen Victoria is depicted surrounded by related members of the Royal families of Europe. It is remarkable as the only stained glass window in England to feature the future Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany (standing second right) with whom Britain would soon be at war. The window is also remarkable because the portraits were based on photographs, probably one of the earliest uses of photography in stained glass window design.
