Beast…or Beauty?
I used to own a car just like this. It is a 1974 International Harvester Scout ll. IH were manufacturers of farm equipment, and this vehicle was an attempt to compete with Jeep in offroad vehicles.
I paid $4000 for a second hand Scout in 1978, and sold it, with its badly rusted body, for $1300 eight years later.
This vehicle, while needing a lot of TLC has the potential to be worth between $45,000 and $175,000! I want my old car back! The main reason for this is that there were relatively few manufactured, they were usually driven in difficult terrain, and now they are very scarce.
This vehicle has been parked at the very small Point Roberts service station, all summer. It has not moved. I decided to ask if I could take some pictures of it. I’m glad I did. The owner is a very nice young man who is a student working at the garage for the summer. We talked about our Scouts and about his plans for this car. He has replacement parts for some of the body, and will find parts for the interior. It is a long term project. He is off to Austria on a four month exchange next month, but hopes to work on it after that. I thanked him and wished him well…on his exhange and with the Scout.
Extra- rear view. My entire Scout was the colour of the orange frame around the upper back, flip up window.
