Corinthian at Malham Cove

Another D of E recce walk today and I had good company in Corinthian. We started our walk at Stainforth village and followed the railway line south to Langcliffe. En route we came across this (do you know what it is yet?) which kept us occupied for a short while. On arriving in Langcliffe we took the minor road straight uphill which cut short our conversation for a bit, then followed the bridleway across the top of the moor. The moorland landscape became more dotted with limestone rocks and pavement as we drew nearer to Malham village and we had a brief glimpse of Malham Tarn which is England's highest freshwater lake. It sits on the Craven fault on slate but its run off soon sinks into the surrounding limestone and emerges on the far side of Malham to become the River Aire. Descending from the moor, we passed by Malham Cove and this is where we took our lunch break with marvellous views. Tony had been away climbing Whernside so we had an ice cream sitting next to Malham Beck and awaited his arrival. Another fine day in the Dales!
