Waverley Station

I swapped yesterday’s tranquility of the Cathkin Marsh for the Edinburgh Festival. A couple of days ago there had been a compelling article in the paper about Itai Erdal’s play influenced by the day his 8 year old nephew came home from school with an empty box to be filled for the Israeli soldiers on the front lines. Inside the box was written “to the soldiers of today from the soldiers of tomorrow”.

I have struggled to understand the Israel -Palestine conflict all my adult life and in part the performance consolidated my awareness, and has prompted more reflections on the nature of nationalism, faith and collective suffering. I must re-read Michael Scott-Baumann’s Palestinians and Israelis.
