Guardians.

I really should have taken this picture in color: these figures are an amazing emerald green and the wall is a deep mustard. But then, if you have to explain it, the problem is self-evident. ;)

These are two of our family Guardians. My great-grandfather stole them from a tourist is all the story I've ever heard about them, but as a kid I'd stare at them for hours up on a high shelf while my Gran told me stories about how they watched over our clan. (Scary stories too, truth be told - Irish Grans are known to scar)

And now they're mine. I've moved them room to room since we got to Texas, never really able to find the right place for them. I think the issue is that until we have kids, they won't really be embodied with the family Guardians - and how amazing is it that our family gods will find a new home, both in the children we pass them on to but in their mythologies as well. A couple of kids who are out there right now, being born in maybe unfortunate circumstances, years away from meeting us, even more years away from the day these figures will sit on their shelves, and their kids will look at them and wonder.

Kind of amazing, really. Kind of a good feeling, entire.
