An unexpected walk into town to Waterstones to collect a book and, of course, have a coffee. Chatted to an elderly gentleman who we often stop to talk to on our walks, discovered his name is Chris.

A hard afternoon’s graft at the allotment, weeding and erecting a brassica cage. Harvested runner beans, beetroot, courgettes, raspberries and a load of blackberries from brambles around the perimeter of the site.

Landon’s first day at kindergarten in California today. We saw a little video of him at the gate and going in. Apprehensive at first but confidently took the first step over the threshold on the next stage of his life. There was a little poignant backward glance as he crossed the yard. How will he be and what will the world be like when he finishes school?

As he starts, Miya finished school this year and looks as if she’ll be starting an animal management course in September
