Table flowers

This morning we were discussing “Lessons on Chemistry” at Book Group 2 at Alison’s. Most people thought it a light whimsical read with a strong message and too many side characters. As we left Alison told us she’d been at discussion group on Monday where Geoff also attended. He tested positive for Covid yesterday. I’m surprised she didn’t think to tell us before we turned up.

I’ve made some grilled courgettes with carrot curls and pinenuts in a lemon oil dressing plus a dish of padron peppers for starter tonight. Main is Moroccan Aubergine Apricot and Chickpea Tagine (flavoured with Ras el Hanout and cinnamon) with a harissa Cous Cous and salads. Pudding is our gooseberries, stewed lightly in elderflower cordial and some homemade gooseberry and elderflower ice cream. Chris and Ailie are coming.

#3 daughter and family had a Granada wander yesterday, dousing themselves in fountains on their way to the cathedral. Today they’ll be in the Med swimming to cool off. The effects of the climate crisis is making itself obvious throughout Europe with fires in Portugal, and floods in northern Germany, Poland and Lithuania and well as south in Slovenia.

Last night’s dream - sleeping in a room which seemed almost outside, with 2 women from Italian class (over 10 years ago that was) and a window looked into another room where a strange man was rolling socks into a ball and tossing them expertly into a drawer.
