Sinéad O'Connor (Tuesday 8th August 2023)
I found myself unexpectedly affected by the premature death of Sinéad O'Connor, probably by suicide though this is not confirmed. Her funeral took place in Bray, County Wicklow today, a place where she lived for a while, and was very well attended.
I collected together my own random collection of CDs and CD singles for Blip, though I lack the studio conditions to do justice to them and had to prop up a felt board against a chair outdoors. A couple of raindrops landed on one of the cases, which seemed appropriate.
Blipper Clean Steve posted a tribute at the time of her death and included a personal anecdote about a time he spent with her in his blip Sinead - RIP.

Willie Nelson & Sinéad O'Connor - Don't Give Up (1992)
Peter Gabriel sang a few duets with Sinéad O'Connor live and on record, possibly including this song though the original recorded version was of course with Kate Bush. Willie Nelson contacted Sinéad O'Connor shortly after the incident at Dylan's 30th Anniversary Show in 1992 to offer support and it led to this moving performance.
The historical context of Nelson choosing to record this particular song with O’Connor when she had essentially been blackballed should be noted. For me, it’s not about comparing it to the original recording, but about one rebel reaching out to another and sending out a message both of solidarity and resilience. - beatrizmejia2890 (2023)
