Rising sensation, sinking feeling
The ascent was gentle but forceful - and it seemed to be irresistible. Although I tried to will myself down again so I could catch up with Jen, I continued to rise.
As I slowly rose over the height of the treetops, I realised that if she looked back now, she wouldn't see me. That's if she did look back. But then, she probably believed she was getting away from a madman: she'd only look over her shoulder to make sure I wasn't following her.
I thought about calling her name, but something stopped me doing it.
Suddenly I felt incredibly weary. I supposed it was a reaction to all that had just happened, but I could hardly keep my eyes open.
As I continued to rise, once again I experienced that momentary inability to call Jen's face to mind. And although I knew she was walking along the path, simply hidden by the trees, it was as if she had disappeared completely.
