Day 1 of the Great Garage Clearout!
David was up sharp to make Andrew his French toast. He wanted golden syrup drizzled on it. Knows what he likes that lad! I was up sharp to get the toppings (melted chocolate, Maltesers and mini marshmallows) on the Malteser Rocky Road so that it would be ready to eat by lunch time.
We have been contemplating this garage clearcut for years a very long time but just couldn't work up enough enthusiasm to start. If only there was someone we knew who was great at this kind of thing - ruthless, methodical, enthusiastic...Oh wait! we do!
So LeeAnne was roped in (in a business capacity, not expecting her to do this for free :-) to make sure that we not only did this, but did it right, and to get the tidy garage organised with a place for everything and everything in its place. And boy did she fulfil her brief, and then some!
She arrived mid morning and of course the first thing we did was get ourselves fuelled up with brunch followed by coffee and Malteser rocky road. Then we headed to the garage.
When D and I looked at it, all we saw was piles of stuff. Where to begin? LeeAnne looked at it and in a blink stuff was being moved and separated and a plan was in place. We followed where she led and made brilliant progress.
I was in charge of hosing everything down piece by piece. Various builders have used the garage to saw wood, tiles, stone as well as other prep, so the place was thick with stoor. Andrew was keen to help so he was put to work wiping everything with a damp cloth after it had been hosed.
David thought he'd ordered a larger skip than we needed but it quickly became apparent that the larger size was exactly what was needed.
We worked steadily throughout the day (I say we, David and LeeAnne were the real workers) and as the day wore on, the garage floor emerged and where there was once chaos, order was restored. LeeAnne had the brilliant idea of making a corner of the garage the gardening corner and hung all the garden tools on hooks in the wall. Very tidy and efficient but by some monster manipulation, by the end of the day, David was talking about how this was his great idea! Now you see what I am up against LeeAnne!
We called it a day at 7.30pm and retreated indoors for showers and Indian takeaway for dinner. As we sat at the kitchen table stuffing our faces, Andrew announced he wanted to propose a toast so he raised his glass of coke and said "Welcome to the family LeeAnne!" Hahahahaha...what a lad!
After dinner all we were fit for was more Malteser rocky road lounging about and watching TV. LeeAnne gave up and went to bed when Return of the Saint came on! D and I planned to follow soon after but both nodded off so it was 1.30am when we got to bed, feeling so happy at what had been achieved today.
