The Old Road to Tarbert
We went orienteering today in the drizzle and the mist. I surprisingly had a good day whereas poor Mr P got lost in the cloud that descended on the hillside and he had to miss out 4 of his 15 controls (checkpoints). This deserved a good warming lunch in the Waterside Cafe in Tarbert where we swapped tales of our courses with friends. The Blip is a marker at one end of a very old road to Tarbert that is now a long distance path. The extra shows the new road and a bit of not so old road that makes useful laybys . You can see low cloud that caused Mr P so much trouble on his course today. What a contrast to yesterday's weather.
If you're interested the English on the stone says -
THE HARRIS WALKWAY
Maraig - Urgha
Follow the old road to Tarbert among the plants and wildlife of the moor into the lush glen of the Lacasdail Lochs - or more experienced hill-walkers could take a detour through Reinigeadal - Time 1 1/2 - 2 Hrs .
I'll not bother with the Gaelic.
