Under the Weather
Not feeling very well today. It was a rather mundane Monday and quite cool this morning. I was depressed to see my students show up for lessons in JUNE wearing winter coats. But they were smart, as our classroom was particularly cold and I found myself wishing to be home in my sauna (or back in Maryland). The sun came out later and it warmed up a bit, but I felt lousy and couldn't seem to thaw all day.
Despite being under the weather, I went out for a 10k jog this evening, since I'm registered for a running event in 2 weeks. But of course, I was very slow: 74 min, 32 sec. - despite ideal temperature and terrain for an easy run. I'd like to shave 5 minutes off that time during the race, but fear daytime heat and hills will only set me back.
I'm mentally preparing myself for last place with positive thoughts like:
+ Someone has to be last & it is better than not running at all
+ I'll have lots of cheering faces at the finish line
+ Maybe by finishing at a slow pace, I'll motivate other slow runners to enroll in races to improve their own fitness level
Great, right? Yeah, I still don't really want to be last :( But I'm sure I'll also be more optimistic when I'm feeling better. The week ahead should offer nicer weather and that will certainly help :)
