Crosses At The Circus, London
Today started with yet more train problems. Though the train strike was yesterday, for some reason my regular train was cancelled even though the one before and the one after were running as normal. So the later one it had to be. This does mean, however, that I have to catch the tube at the other end to make it in on time. All was going well until, as often happens, the train got stuck behind a late running stopping service (I call them trundlers for a very good reason!) on the approach to Victoria. Upshot I was ten minutes late getting into work due to the delay.
Work was so quiet that I didn't take a shot in anger the whole morning so I decided I needed to stimulate my brain cells and go and see a couple of exhibitions at the Photographers Gallery. The works featured were by Evelyn Hofer and Johny Pitts. They were both engrossing so I may well go back for another look.
Today's shots were all taken on the way back to work. The main image (and first extra) were taken at Oxford Circus (hence the title). This area and the rest of Oxford Street seem to be a hotspot for preachers for some reason (see some of my previous blips), maybe they see it as a den of sin and greed that needs converting. The man in the main image was silent, though, which made him quite unnerving to me amongst all the hustle and bustle but other people walked straight past him or ignored him completely. The last extra, "Cellini's Team", was captured on Regent Street. These school or college groups, nearly always with matching bright backpacks and caps, are a feature of summer in Central London.
The afternoon at work was exactly the same as the morning so I was just counting the hours and minutes until I could head home. Five o'clock came and I headed to Victoria only to be greeted by yet more train problems. This time a lineside fire near Faversham created chaos with many trains cancelled which, of course, included my one to Bromley South. However, I was lucky as one the "trundlers" was also heading that way and it was on time and half empty - result! It meant I made my connecting train and got home more or less on time. Phew!
My bother picked me up and we headed straight to the pub for a relaxing pint. It was a bit on the noisy side with kids running everywhere. I think it was even noisier as they had all just finished school for summer so were in celebratory mode and letting off a bit (well a lot!) of steam.
