All A Bit Of A Downer, Aylesford
Finally got our pay rise "letter" yesterday and it was all a bit of a downer. It amounted to 0.07% more than last year (hurrah and thrice hurrah!!), while also being way under the rate of inflation for the second year running. The word congratulations was in there somewhere but it felt more like a slap in the face than anything else.
Luckily, I've got tomorrow off so no getting on any train of any description (oh rejoice!). Today's was late yet again and I made my connection only by the skin of my teeth.
As for the ticket office situation where they want to close hundreds of them I'm very much against. It's too late for the one at our station as they closed it last year so all that's left is a wheezy old ticket machine that isn't always working and there are no staff at all. The train companies then say they will put more staff on the platforms (seen no evidence of that in any way). Here's an idea - instead of doing that why not just keep the bloody ticket offices open. It's very much like the banks - they shortened hours, closed hundreds of branches and then said we're not using them! Also, for disabled and elderly passengers it will be a nightmare.
After getting off the train me and my brother headed to the village pub overlooking the river for a pint as it was such a lovely evening. It was a very relaxing way to end the day. The main image is self explanatory and just fitted exactly how I felt. With the second I was trying to capture the golden light through the bus shelter! The no.29 runs from the newly built Peters Village through ours and into Maidstone. Quite a scenic route as it happens.
