Came for the berries

This afternoon we drove north to Mangawhai. First time on the newly completed extension of the motorway north from Puhoi to Warkworth.
Lovely to see Jeff again, and in his own home. It is six years since his wife who was our dear friend (and classmate of mine) died after a very short illness, and her presence was felt intermittently.

She led their development of a lush growth of palms and trees, which over the years has attracted many birds, mostly natives. We had been told that the palms with berries attract Kaka, and two to four come most evenings. 

I was able to get todays' blip after about ten tries. It was quite active, and often behind the cluster of berries. Very pleased to get a photo especially as this is number 44 for the year.
