MEMORIES NEVER LEAVE

Today Mum and I went to the funeral of Auntie Ei….my Mums sort of sister but friend of 70 years. She was a dedicated nurse all her life, had and immense love of dogs. Had never married or had children, although my sister was her god daughter.

She had dementia and had been in a home for years. We saw her just before lockdown and then due to restrictions and poor communication we were unable to establish if she was still alive. It was a strange relief to get a call from her nephew(who had discovered Mums number) to let us know the funeral was in 2 days time. It was important to be able to say goodbye but the service was TOO simple…but she has definitely a no frills or fancy woman so probably what she would have wanted. Although something to eat at the pub would have been welcome after 2 hours driving!!! Still it got Mum and I talking and she’s requesting a blooming good knees up in someone’s garden:))))) It was also nice to share memories with her nephew who had been my holiday mate on several occasions 45+ years ago!!!!

I did make it back to join my colleagues for an end of term tipple and a much needed pizza!!!
