Successfully Steaming
Fireless locomotive built by Andrew Barclay Sons & Co. Ltd., works no. 1952 built in 1928, steams again at the Doon Valley Railway having just passed it's pressure systems safety inspection.
It is currently the only operational fireless locomotive in the UK, though there are many non-operational ones. It will be used on specified open days to operate as a demonstration. It's only brake is a manually operated ratchet brake so is unable to operate passenger trains.
The locomotive was supplied new to the Shell refinery at Ardrossan where it spent it's entire industrial life before being preserved.
