Morning from Corfu
(Wednesday).
As you can see we didn’t make it home. At around 1am our flight was cancelled, my understanding is that the crew had worked their hours and are not allowed to fly over them. As much as I appreciate this, the crew and company would have known this when they left the UK so why not either send new crew to take over or even cancelled the flight earlier rather than trying to find accommodation in the early hours of the morning.
We had to go back through passport control and collect our luggage. We stood outside the airport talking to the aides that are there to assist but we’re finding it increasingly difficult to find accommodation as it’s the height of the season. Also an earlier flight to Belfast had been cancelled and they couldn’t find accommodation either. Mr C found a cheap hotel online and in the town. We managed to secure a room and got a taxi there. We finally crashed out around 3am and back up at 7. Realising we had time before heading back to the airport we ventured out at 7.30am to enjoy the old town without all the people and the cacophony of noise from the swallows flying around.
Our new flight was due to leave at 11:45. In the end it was about an hour later but we got home safe and sound during the afternoon and shattered.
Extras of old town and in the air. The area along the coast next to the runway was where Prince Philip was born.
In the evening Mr C had a prearranged dinner date with the head of the school where he was chair of governors for many years and another ex governor who left at the same time as Mr C and it was a thank you from the head who is also leaving the school this week after 10 years at the helm. I dropped him off in Wimbledon and then Lucy and I also grabbed a bite to eat at a pub.
This morning I have uploaded the last 4 or 5 days of our holiday blips.
