Through the trees

Train to Oban. I forgot how small this train is, two carriages for a three hour journey,  it trundles along leaving Glasgow to the west to wander through the Trossachs, alongside deep sea lochs out to the open sea at Oban.

The train runs quite high up for the second third of the journey until it reaches Arrochar, giving astonishing views, filtered by lacy strands of trees, of the Firth of Clyde and (I think) Gareloch and Loch Long. Occasionally we rise above the wooded hills and seem to skim the canopy.  I love the glimpse of something that no one will see at ground level - a huge woodland honeysuckle for example.

Three and a half hours later, short delay around Taynuilt, we arrived in Oban with the rain chucking it down.  V was texting me to eat crab rolls from The Green Shack at the terminal but it only took cash so I had a cheese sandwich from the little carry out. The small, slower ferry was doing the journey across to Mull where V was waiting,  eating a cheese toastie in the cafe next to the SPAR.  So sync.

Good to arrive in West, lovely dahlias on the table @treshnish ! The rain stopped enough for me to take a walk down to the Shut & Fasten Gate gate.  V cooked a delicious chilli and we watched some thing I’d already downloaded after supper.  Oh ok…two more eps of The Witcher.
