Fruit picking

I hope fruit pickers who work for a living are well paid.

A dry morning and early afternoon, time to gather in gooseberries, blackcurrants and a few Worcesterberries, most are not ready yet.

The hardest part, if I don’t mention the huge thorns on the berries, is preparing it all for the freezer. A good job done, those that remain are for the blackbirds who are not backward in coming forward. The rain came on just as we finished picking the currants, good timing.

Worcesterberries are a cross gooseberry and blackcurrant, I used some recently to make a jelly, the flavour was very good.
400grms fruit, 50-75 grms sugar, gently bring to the boil, strain, make liquid up to a pint, soak 4 leaves gelatine 5 mins, when soft add to the juice, cool and refrigerate. Takes 24 hours.
